Artiste in the field of Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Theatre

Sukanya Kumar, disciple of Smt. Priyadarsini Govind, is a Bharatnatyam performer. She has trained earlier under the Gurus of Sri Rajarajeswari Bharatanatya Kala Mandir, Mumbai. She has performed in many prestigious venues, both as a solo performer and in group events. She has won many first prizes and awards in inter school, college, institutional competitions and from various Sabhas. 

She is the winner of the 25th Spirit Of youth Best Dancer Award from Music Academy (2013), Best Dancer from Indian Fine Arts Society (2014), Natya Chudar (2015) title from Kartik Fine Arts, Vempatti Chinna Sathyam Award for all round excellence in Dance (2015) from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Yuva Kala Bharathi (All Rounder) Award (2016) from Bharath Kalachar, Chennai; Junior level Scholarship from Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, HRD Ministry, New Delhi and the National Level Senior Scholarship for Bharatanatyam from Ministry of Culture, New Delhi, India. 

She is a proficient Kathak performer having completed Madhyama Purna in Kathak from 
Gandharva Mahavidyalay with distinction. 

She is a graded artiste for the Indian National television ‘Doordarshan’ in both Bharatanatyam and Kathak genres.

Sukanya is a competent choreographer, enjoys teaching and has trained students at 
Sivan Arts Academy and Clarke School for the Deaf and Blind, Royapettah.

Besides Bharatanatyam and Kathak, she also learns allied arts like Kalaripayattu, Mridangam, Nattuvangam and Carnatic Vocal.

She is well versed in English, Hindi and Tamil and a competent writer and anchor person.

A graduate in Electronic Media, Post Graduate in Fine Arts (Bharatanatyam), MBA in Educational Management, she is presently pursuing MFA in World Dance -Dance Medicine and Technology. She is adept at photography, videography, audio and video editing, web designing, set and costume designing, graphics and event management.

She is also a part of the organizing core committee of Svanubhava, a movement for and by the students of arts guided by eminent vocalist Shri T M Krishna.
